EXCEL to Lead Largest Green Ammonia Facility in North America

DONALDSONVILLE, LA – EXCEL Group announces project award with the largest ammonia producer and manufacturer of fertilizer for the Green Ammonia Facility in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, doubling the size of the existing facility.

North America's first commercial-scale green ammonia plant is the largest green ammonia facility in the United States, set to produce up to 20,000 tons of green ammonia per year. The facility will generate hydrogen from carbon-free sources. The project will incorporate the carbon-free hydrogen produced by its electrolysis plant into existing ammonia synthesis loops.

Hydrogen has emerged as a leading source of clean energy as countries work to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Industry experts project hydrogen will meet approximately 20% of the world's energy needs in the next 30 years,  up from less than 1% today. Ammonia, composed of three parts hydrogen and one part nitrogen, is a highly efficient transport and storage mechanism for hydrogen and a clean fuel in its own right.
